Google Shopping for Retailers in Egypt and Saudi Arabia
Why the product feed is the Shopping campaign — titles, attributes, custom labels and imagery, and what differs between the Egyptian and Saudi markets.

Google Shopping campaigns have no keywords. You do not tell Google what to match against — the product feed does that for you. Which means the feed is not an administrative task that precedes the campaign. The feed is the campaign.
Most underperforming Shopping accounts in Egypt and Saudi Arabia are not badly managed. They are well managed on top of a feed that was exported once from the store platform and never touched again — and in both markets that single file decides more of the outcome than the bidding does.
The product title carries the match
The title is the strongest matching signal in the feed. A title that reads well on your website is usually the wrong title for Shopping, because your site visitor already knows what category they are in and the searcher does not.
The structure that works puts the attributes a buyer actually types at the front: brand, product type, key attribute, then model or variant. A sofa listed as its internal product name will match almost nothing; the same sofa titled with material, seat count and colour matches the queries people write.
Two market-specific points. First, titles need to exist in the language the buyer searches in — an English-only feed is invisible to Arabic Shopping queries, and that is frequently half the available demand. Second, the character limit truncates in the display, so the first sixty-odd characters have to carry the identification on their own.
Attributes that change delivery
- GTIN and MPN — where they exist, they unlock comparison surfaces and improve match quality. Omitting them on branded goods is a real cost.
- Google product category — set it explicitly rather than letting it be inferred, particularly in jewelry and watches where auto-assignment is often wrong.
- Availability and price accuracy — mismatches between feed and landing page cause disapprovals, and repeated mismatches suppress the whole account.
- Custom labels — the most underused field in the feed. Use them to tag margin band, seasonality and bestseller status, then bid by those labels rather than by product category.
That last point is where most of the profit sits. Bidding by category treats a high-margin item and a loss leader identically. Bidding by custom label lets the account push budget towards what actually earns.
Image quality is a performance variable
In Shopping the image is the ad. In furniture and jewelry it is close to the entire proposition, and the difference between a clean product shot on white and a styled lifestyle photograph is measurable in click-through rate.
The practical rule: the main image should isolate the product against a plain background, because it competes in a grid where every neighbouring image is doing the same. Lifestyle imagery belongs in the additional image slots and on the landing page.
What differs between the two markets
Egypt
A volume market rather than a price market, as we describe in our read on Egypt. Cost per click is comparatively low, which makes feed discipline less immediately painful but no less valuable — the waste is simply slower. Cash on delivery remains a significant share of transactions in several categories, which means the conversion recorded online and the revenue recognised in the accounting file are different numbers. Feeding the confirmed order back, rather than the placed order, is what makes Shopping bidding trustworthy here.
Saudi Arabia
Higher basket values, a more expensive auction, and a stronger mobile skew. Currency and VAT presentation in the feed have to match the landing page exactly. Delivery time is a genuine competitive attribute in this market and belongs in the merchant promotions rather than buried on the product page. The wider dynamics are covered in our Saudi market view.
Campaign structure
Start with a standard Shopping campaign rather than Performance Max, even though the platform will push the other way. Standard Shopping shows you which products and which search terms are spending, and that visibility is what lets you fix the feed. Once the feed is clean and conversion volume supports it, Performance Max usually outperforms — the sequencing argument is in our Performance Max note.
Split campaigns by custom label, not by category. Add negative keywords aggressively — Shopping matches broadly by design, and without negatives it will buy research and comparison queries indefinitely.
If Shopping is spending without returning, the feed is the first place to look. We audit it as part of the written growth review.
